JUNE DAY

If you attend one function all year, it should be June Day. It's for kids, but the age limit for kids is waived for the day. This 70 year tradition has a parade, fun run, midway, field games, pony rides, prizes, food, music and fun for all tied around an annual theme.

Twelve hours of activities for the whole family.

STEAK (and Salmon) ROAST

This "end-of-summer" party is traditionally held at the Community House on the Friday following Labor Day. There is a basic menu of fish (salmon) or steak with an evening of conversation, dancing and neighborhood togetherness. (The 40 seconds of positive Detroit image shown on "Prime Time Live" was our Steak Roast!) The good thing about the steak roast is that if you don't like the food preparation, you get to do it the following year. By the way, this year's chairpersons are:

CHRISTMAS LIGHTING

Drive around the Park at Christmas time and you'll see some blocks that take Christmas decorations very seriously. That's because there's a contest each year for best lighting that has caused an ever escalating struggle for decorating supremacy. There are many categories so it's a wonder everyone can't win. Judging is by a secret, elite and unidentified group.

June Day 1930

"While the big parade, field day and picnic for next Saturday (June Day)...a word will be said here about the prizes. This is no kidding, either. The prizes for costumes and contests are way beyond what any of you have reason to expect. How this comes about is a secret; but it can be emphatically said here that the prizes offered in every class are fully worth the best efforts that any boy or girl in the Park could put forth to win them. You folks are going to be surprised and I am not fooling."  Rosedale Tattler, June, 1930.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinnerg in

North Rosedale has a long tradition of family dining. We don't have the Saturday night bonfires of the early days but the special events still continue. These events are a great way to get acquainted with your neighbors and enjoy some very good food.

Formal Occasions at the old "Club House"

"On formal occasions, held on cold winter nights (at the Old Club House), it was not uncommon to see a couple of dignified members, in white ties and tails, weilding the poker and shoveling soft coal into the hungry maw of the stove at one end of the room, while a group of ladies, in fromal backless gowns, hovered about the stove at the other end, endeavoring to erase the goose pimples on their arms and shoulder blades. Such minor inconviences never dampened the spirit of those early parties which were entered into by practically every member with enthusiasm to a degree unparalleled in present social life."
